Customs Requirements

Customs requirements for importation of personal items & vehicles into Northern Cyprus

New residents intending to bring their second hand used household goods & personal effects into NORTHERN CYPRUS are exempt from paying any customs duty, VAT or other fees. However brand new items are not exempt from these charges.

You will be required to produce the following documentation for your import customs formalities which must be completed prior to collecting or having your goods delivered from the port of Famagusta to your Cyprus address.

  • Your original passport together with 2 sets of photocopies
  • The deeds of your house or tenancy agreement / stamped sales agreement
  • A resident’s certificate which can be obtained from your local council
  • 2 copies of a packing list in both English & Turkish (Our office can assist with translating)
  • Copy of delivery order. These documents should be obtained from our Cyprus office
  • A certificate from the immigration office, which can be obtained from any central police station. This document shows a log of your arrival & departure dates in Cyprus which is required by customs.
  • You will require a licence for your T.V. and music system. The amount of this fees is 100 TL per T.V. and 50 TL per music system. Paid to the custom authority at the port.
  • You will also require three tax stamps from the local post office (our office can direct you). With these stamps you need to go to
    • Immigration office x1 @ 38,70 TL
    • Customs office in (Nicosia) x2 @ 38,70 TL

Car Imports (Additional Documents Required)

  • Original passport & photocopy
  • Original local insurance & photocopy for temporary import only
  • Original driver’s licence & photocopy
  • Original vehicle registration document (logbook) in the importers name & photocopy
  • A resident certificate which can be obtained from your local council (muhtar)
  • The deed of your house or tenancy agreement / stamped sales agreement
  • A residence permit is required from immigration office
  • A certificate from the immigration office, which can only be obtained upon application in person. This document shows a log of your arrival / departure dates in Cyprus which is required by customs from the application date only, not before.

Rules & Regulations for Importing Vehicles

  • If you own a vehicle over 5 years old, you will be unable to import the vehicle unless you are a resident either by owning a property or you have a high income.
  • You will have to stay on the island for 2 months
  • İf you are a new resident with no citizenship you can import the vehicle (any age) as long as the log book is in your name
  • İf you have not been in Cyprus for more then one year in the past 2 years, you can drive your car on the island with temporary driving permission for up to 1 year, this however is down to the customs authorities.
  • All vehicles arriving into the island are subject to import tax.
